MSHA Training

The state of South Carolina provides mine health and safety training for the miners, mine operators and contract employees working at mining locations through the SC Technical College System. Classes are offered and delivered at mine sites or in regional locations to better accommodate mining industry employees.

Courses are presented in:

  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher Training
  • 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 New Miner Training
    • Statutory rights of miners and their representatives under the Act; authority and responsibility of supervisors
    • Self-rescue and respiratory devices
    • Transportation controls and communication systems
    •  Introduction to work environment
    • Escape and emergency evacuation plans; fire warning and firefighting
    • Ground control; working in areas of highwalls, water hazards, pits, and spoil banks; illumination and night work
    • Health
    • Hazard recognition
    • Electrical hazards
    • First aid / CPR / AED
    • Explosives
    • Health and safety aspects of the tasks to which the new miner will be assigned including HazCom information

Many of these classes are integrated into the 30 CFR parts 46 and 48 Annual Refresher and New Miner training.

New Miner Training (24 hours)*

May 31, June 1 & 2, 2017 Kershaw, SC 7:30 am to 4:00 pm daily

*Classes may be offered as noted and upon request when a minimum enrollment of 12 trainees is met; maximum class size is 30 trainees. Published training dates are subject to change.

 

Annual Refresher Training (8 hours)*

May 25, 2017 Kershaw, SC 7:30 am to 4:00 pm daily
June 15, 2017 Kershaw, SC 7:30 am to 4:00 pm daily

We offer two types of training: New Miner Training (24 hours) and the Annual Refresher Miner Training (8 hours). Your Annual Refresher is due each year before the end of the month that you were trained in the previous year.

Hazardous Weather Conditions: The Governor has directed that when winter storms or hazardous weather occur in South Carolina, state government offices and their employees will follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by county government officials where the state offices are located. Our training center is located in Lancaster County. Check the South Carolina Emergency Management Division web site, WWW.SCEMD.ORG. The information regarding closings and delayed openings will be posted to the SCEMD web site as quickly as it is received.
